The Illustrator And The Printmaker ~ Rejoice, All is Ours!

We are Blial Cabal; a collaborative art collection between Husband and Wife duo, Steven & Maranda who live in the Foothills of California's Sierra Nevada Mountains. From the very beginning of our relationship we spent most of our free time creating art together so it didn't take long for us to realize that we had a mutually beneficial and interdependent skill-set, thus in 2011 Blial Cabal (meaning Secret Art Collective) was born! 


Equally intrigued by all things Metal & Macabre; we have found a plethora of inspiration among the Dark Arts and Occult. Our aim is to provide Uniquely Macabre creations fueled by music, fine arts, literature, and all things esoteric.

 Award winning artist Steven Tovar specializes in the exceptionally unforgiving art of nib and ink illustration. Stevens detail focused hatching technique is a most distinctive attribute of Blial Cabal. His subject matters remain all things macabre and are Always hand drawn, and never digitally enhanced.

Introducing Maranda the Printmaker

 Through her ritual like printing process Maranda, the printmaker, delivers an assortment of ever changing Blial Cabal Functional Art. Maranda’s unique Limited editions include Antique Hand Dyed Altar Linens, Cardigans, shirts, leggings, hoodies, Prints, and One of a kind Creations. A fine mix of treasures, some new, some resurrected!  

The Magick is in the Details! 

Metal nibs have their origins as far back as ancient Egypt and were made of metals like copper and bronze.  

Nibs are sensitive to variations of pressure and speed, producing a line that naturally varies in thickness; and they can produce a finer line than any fountain pen.

Illustrating Supplies

Paper

Steven prefers a thick paper and has found the Professional Arches 140 lb, 300 gsm Hot Press to be just what he needs.

Nib & Ink

The Brause Steno Nib aka the "Blue Pumpkin" Lasts a long time and holds a lot of ink.


Steven is always using Dr. Ph. Martin’s Bombay Black India Ink. It's the darkest black and the right consistency for use with his preferred Nib and Paper.  

Pencil & Eraser

The Prisma Color, 2H Pencil Provides light soft markings for sketching & easily erasing.


The General's Tri-Tip Eraser is really soft and leaves no marks or smudges.

Hand Pulled Serigraphy. Aka silk screening, screen printing, or serigraph printing. Is a stencil-based printing process in which ink is forced through a fine screen onto the art medium beneath, In this case fabric. Screens were originally made of silk, but they are now made of finely woven polyester or nylon.

Soft to the Touch! Professional Quality Jacquard Screen Printing Ink is long lasting, Non-toxic, and eco friendly. These water-based Inks are very durable and typically wear as long as the fabric lasts. We love mixing our own custom colors.
